Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw is the Founder and Executive Chairperson of Biocon, Asia’s leading biopharmaceutical enterprise. A first-generation entrepreneur, she has transformed Biocon since its founding in 1978 from an industrial enzymes company into a global biopharma innovator delivering affordable therapies for chronic diseases such as diabetes, cancer, and autoimmune disorders.
Internationally recognized, she has been featured in TIME magazine’s list of the 100 Most Influential People, Forbes’ World’s 100 Most Powerful Women, and Fortune’s Top 25 Most Powerful Women in Asia-Pacific. She is the only Indian on Forbes’ list of the World’s Self-Made Women Billionaires, and in 2023, was elected as a full-term Trustee of the MIT Corporation, USA.
Mazumdar-Shaw has been honored with India’s prestigious Padma Shri (1989) and Padma Bhushan (2005) for her contributions to industry and society.
